Tidemand sixth at Silverstone Euro RX

Pontus Tidemand performed well at his guest appearance in 2019’s first Euro RX round in Great Britain. Behind the wheel of Per Eklund’s Volkswagen Beetle, he made a great effort in the qualifying heats and moved on to the semis and eventually the final, where he finished sixth.

“This has been a really fun weekend. I’m very pleased that we could keep up with the works cars this well and make it all the way to the final. Considering the tough competition, I wasn’t completely counting on it” said Pontus with a smile after the finish.

Pontus welcomed the opportunity to get into competitive mode when Per Eklund offered him to start at the Euro RX season premiere at Silverstone. As he is mainly focusing on rally and his next WRC start, Pontus came to Great Britain without any pressure. Instead he aimed to just enjoy his time behind the wheel. But despite put up against great drivers, who are rallycross aces, he fought well. After the four qualifying heats, he was in fifth place and moved on to the semi-finals. A third place gave him a spot in the final, where he finished sixth.

“Everything has been working so well during these days” said Pontus. “We’ve worked our way into the race, changed setup along the way and found something that made us quite competitve so that we could mix in with the fight. My highlight was setting second quickest time overall in the second qualifying heat and that I got to work with legends like Per Eklund and Tommy Kristoffersson. Very grateful for this.”
