Tidemand wants to challenge in Höljes
With a second place from last week’s Swedish Rally Sprint Championship, Pontus Tidemand is heading towards his third guest appearance in the European Rallycross Championship and he is looking forward to “The Magic Weekend” on home soil in Höljes. With more power under the hood since the Norwegian round, he is hoping to give the fans a good show and get a another great result.
Even though Pontus is fully focused on his next WRC start, it is important to keep the competitive speed up and when Per Eklund gave Pontus the chance to race in the Euro RX, he quickly accepted the offer. A good performance at the season premiere in Great Britain, where Pontus finished sixth, lead to a start in Norwegian Hell and Pontus performed well there too, despite missing out on the final. He is fifth in the overall championship and is now getting a third chance – at his home RX event, which is one of Pontus’ favorite events.
“Rally Sweden and Höljes RX, they are in a league of their own and the best motor events in Sweden. I’m so thrilled that I get to do both of them in the same year” said Pontus. “I haven’t been in Höljes since I did the whole World RX series in 2014 so I’m really excited to come back. This is my home RX event and the atmosphere can’t be compared to anything else, the north of Värmland county is on fire and it’s impossible to not get caught up in it and feel extra motivated.”
Pontus is also hoping to beat his previous results this season. He feels at home in Eklund Motorsport’s Volkswagen Beetle and knows how to get the most of it and just in time for “The Magic Weekend”, he has an ace up his sleeve.
“Per has improved the Beetle since Norway. It has a new turbo and I hope that will give us that extra power that we need. The team has done a fantastic job with the car at the previous rounds and this time we aim even higher. The track in Höljes is fun to drive, you can really attack. If everything works properly, we can definitely offer the big boys some good competiton.”
Höljes RX is a unique addition to the World RX calendar and the campers on ‘Happy Street’ and entertainment for visitors of all ages makes this one of the most popular rounds in the series. Last year as many as 51 600 spectators visited the Höljes track.
