Tidemand continues with SKODA
The ruling WRC 2 champion Pontus Tidemand is all set to continue the outstanding cooperation with SKODA Motorsport and begins 2018 behind the wheel of their unbeatable Fabia R5.
The 27-year-old Swede has gone from success to success during his years as a SKODA driver. He has taken two international titles – Asia-Pacific Rally Champion 2015 and WRC 2 Champion 2017 – and also contributed to SKODA winning team championships and this year they can look back on the most successful motorsport season in their 116 years long history. And now it is decided that they continue their cooperation and that Pontus and his co-driver Jonas Andersson start their 2018 season together with the Czech team.
“SKODA Motorsport are professional all the way and to get a contract with them was a milestone that took me to the next level in my career” said Pontus. “We have had a fantastic teamwork for the past three years where we have always had the best chances to perform on top at the same time as we have a great progression. Thanks to that, we are here today with the WRC 2 title in our hands. I’m happy and grateful to continue a while longer as a works driver for SKODA and I’m really looking forward to starting a new year with new goals.”
Pontus is not only WRC 2 champion, but also historically the driver with the most victories in the class and he is eager to chase more.
“It is very rewarding to compete in the WRC 2” he explained. “The competition is mega tough and every rally gives more and new experience that is important for the future. To reach a permanent spot in the WRC is of course my target, but for 2018 it is as simple as this – there are no seats available. I know that I’m ready and the best way for me to get there is definitely to continue establishing myself as someone to reckon with in the WRC circus together with a winning team like SKODA. We are working hard on the next step so we will see what happens during the upcoming year, but for now we are fully focused on the winter season.”
As team-mates in SKODA Motorsport, Pontus gets his Norwegian EVEN Management colleague Ole Christian Veiby and Finnish Juuso Nordgren and Kalle Rovanperä with some appearances by Czech driver Jan Kopecký.
