Pontus Tidemand pleased with The Midnight Sun Rally

Although Pontus Tidemand felt the urge to swoop through the woods in an older car, that had to stand back this year. This season, all focus is on the Junior World Rally Championship and as a participant in the Invitation category in The Midnight Sun Rally, he could get a few days of intense practise ahead of the next championship rally in a similar car.

This year’s Midnight Sun Rally couldn’t have been a bigger hit for the organizers. The warm and sunny weather attracted thousands of spectators to the stages and the events around the rally gave a lot of media attention. Pontus and co-driver Ola Fløene participated in the Invitation category, which meant that they weren’t a part of the actual competition, but still got all the valuable kilometers as practise for Rally Finland in a couple of weeks. The car that they drove was Team Tätab’s Ford Fiesta R2, the same typ of two wheel drive car that they use in JWRC.

During the four days, 22 special stages were driven and Pontus is pleased with the practise that the rally offered – an opportunity to polish both driving and pacenotes. He definitely believes that The Midnight Sun Rally’s 215 km will be an advantage in the upcoming rally.

“We’ve got really good practise this close to the next JWRC event and we’re very grateful for that. Everything went smoothly for us all four days and it felt like a perfect warmup for Rally Finland”, says Pontus.

As mentioned, Pontus’ next event is Rally Finland, which is the third rally in this year’s Junior World Rally Championship and takes place 1-3 August with the city Jyväskylä as it’s base.
