Pontus Tidemand enters Rally Sweden in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC
After weeks of hard work, an entry notification for Rally Sweden was sent from the 22 year old rally talent Pontus Tidemand, just before the entries closed. Together with co-driver Ola Fløene, Pontus will enter in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC, an investment made possible by an amazing response from several companies in the region of Värmland.
Rally Sweden is the second rally in the WRC 2013 season, takes place between the 7th and 10th of February and Sweden’s big rally talent Pontus Tidemand is among the entries. The final details were worked out at last minute to make an entry possible, 10 minutes before time was out.
– It feels completely crazy. We’re starting to approach my big goal, a WRC start in Rally Sweden. It’s been long days lately to make it all come together, says Tidemand.
As navigator we will find Ola Fløene, a new acquaintance for Pontus in the co-driver’s seat, but a very familiar face personally as they’ve both been a part of the Norwegian EVEN Rally team for the last year. Fløene has previously been co-driver of double IRC Champion Andreas Mikkelsen, who also are backed up by EVEN Rally Management, but will now be navigating for Pontus during the winter season 2013.
The car, a Ford Fiesta RS WRC, is included in the main WRC class and Pontus will be battling against big names such as Sébastien Loeb, Mikko Hirvonen and Mads Östberg in the forests of Sweden.
– It will be really tough to make it into top ten, but our goal is to score points and set a few good stage times. I can neither expect or ask more than that from myself, Pontus explains.
An investment like this is incredibly expensive, but with help from several companies in the region of Värmland and Pontus’ mentor Bror Danielsson and Jan Sundell, the founder of Westmatic, leading the way, this opportunity has been made possible. Still there are a few details left before Pontus is on the start line.
– I’m extremely grateful towards everyone that helps me so much, Pontus says. Bror has been working very hard with his large network of contacts, as well as Jan Sundell, who has been there to support me for years. Also Tommy Andersson and Ingemar Svensson, who owns the car I will be driving, have been really important to make this come together, Pontus finishes.
